Questions & Answers

Do you have a burning question for us? Have a read below and you might just find the answer.

Q: How should I change the bulb in my electric melter?

A: Only touch the melter when the unit is cool and unplugged. Avoid touching the new bulb with a bare hand, the natural oils and salts from your hand can damage the bulb. If the melter has a narrow opening, use pliers. Try putting the prongs into the fingers of a rubber glove and using this to handle the bulb. Work with caution and a gentle grip.

Q: Why does my touch melter have different settings?

A: So that you can choose the level of brightness and fragrance release. You should cycle slowly through the stages to turn your melter on and off, never directly from the mains switch.

Q: What do we recommend melting in any of our melters, electric and tealight?

A: All our melters including both tealight and electric are to be used with wax melts only. We do not recommend using any oils in our melters.

Q: What sort of plug do the melters have?

A: All of our melters are fitted with a UK standard 3 prong plug.

Q: Can your plug in melters be used as nightlights?

A: No, our plug in melters are to be used as wax melters only.

Q: What is the difference between candles stocked by Aromatize and other brands?

A: Aromatize only stock brands that have a reputation for quality and a strong fragrance throw.  Our suppliers only use the highest quality materials available, including premium grade wax, the finest fragrance oils and cotton wicks.

Q: How can I keep my candles looking their best?

A: Keep your candles stored in a cool, dry place when you are not using them.  All candles will discolour or fade when they are exposed to intense light for extended periods and wax will soften if exposed to high temperatures. Keep your wicks trimmed to 1/4 inch and discontinue use once only 1/2 inch of wax remains.

Q: Where should I place my candle jar when I want to use it?

A: We recommend using a heat resistant surface such as a candle plate to prevent any damage to your surfaces.  Place the candle jar on a level, flat, cool, heat resistant surface away from draughts, other heat sources and flammable objects.  The candle jar should be kept out of the reach of children and pets and should never be left unattended.

Q: Sometimes my jar candles get black, what is the cause and how do I clean it off?

A: This is called “sooting” and can be caused by numerous things

  • Sooting can be caused by poorly sized wicks – Only purchase candles from a reputable manufacturer
  • Sooting can be caused by a draught – For best results, candles should be burned in a draught-free environment
  • Sooting can be caused by a lack of wick trimming – For best results, keep wick trimmed to 1/4”
  • To clean the glass, follow these simple instructions: while candle and glass is cool, use a clean damp cloth and wipe the soot off, taking care to completely dry the area before relighting

Q: Can I refill my jar candle when it is empty?

A: For safety reasons, we do not recommend refilling glass with wax.

Q: Can you recycle the empty candle jars?

A: Most local recycling agencies will accept empty candle jars with other glass recyclables.

Q: Do any candle brands stocked by Aromatize have lead wicks?

A: No lead wicks are used in any of our products.  All our products use cotton wicks that are free from lead and safe to use.

Q: How do I use your wax melt packs?

A: Place a wax cube on to the top tray of an Aromatize wax melter.  Do not add water.  The wax melter should be dry and cool before use.  The wax will melt when warmed and release its fragrance.  Allow the melter to cool before moving or changing the fragrance.  Place the wax melter on a level, flat, cool, heat resistant surface away from draughts, other heat sources and flammable objects.  Read all user instructions and warnings for both the wax melt pack and the wax melter before use.  Ensure the volume of the melted wax will be less than the dish, to avoid spilling hot wax.

Q: How do I use your reed diffusers?

A: Remove the plug from the top of the bottle and insert the reeds into the bottle through the hole.  The reeds will now draw up the fragrance from within the bottle and start diffusing it into the room.  It may take a little time before the room begins to smell on first use, whilst the fragrance saturates the reeds.  To increase the fragrance throw from your diffuser flip the reeds over regularly.  You can control the strength of the fragrance by using more or fewer reeds.  Read all user instructions and warnings for the reed diffuser before use.

Q: How do I use your LED ceramic diffusers?

A: Place the bottle on the wooden base and place the ceramic flute on top. Feed the reeds through the top of the ceramic flute with care into the liquid bottle.  Once the base is plugged in, press the on/off switch on the lead to light the internal LED in the wooden base. Flip the reeds on a regular basis to maintain a high level of fragrance diffusion. Read all user instructions and warnings for the ceramic reed diffuser before use.
